A Moving Image. Costume Narrative Breakdown

An artist returns to her gentrified community where she explores her social position and complicity in the rapid changes of the area. The film was set in London with a focus on Brixton.

As the lead characters societal views rapidly change her appearance becomes a visual representation of her thoughts. Her initial western appearance which includes a floaty hair weave, bustier & more sexy tops is eventually replaced for natural curls and ethnic focused sustainable fashion, at one point this develops to a quite extreme disruptive unkept look. Her views often change and flip flop. She is at times a contradiction and confusing much life her constantly changing opinions. Struggling to identify as a native South East Londoner her appearance pulls form the tribes she has experienced living abroad, In east and west london. an afrocentric erratic vibe is formed as an armour for her to face the concerns she has in her community.

The film has 4 supporting cast members to actress Tanya Fear. It was important to acknowledge plight of these characters that represent and speak for the "real" people within the film. These characters included: a struggling artist, a concerned afrocentric community worker, a caring effortlessly stylish best friend who lived in south london he whole life and the successful working actor who plays Tanya’s ‘love interest’, Confident charismatic but at times ignorant. All of this fed into each other’s storylines to extenuate or diminish the leading cast members ego in a specific scene.
